Dougies is run by a bunch of us who had lots of fun backpacking around places of the world before, so we decided to start a hostel ourselves. We have the pretty relaxed atmosphere, without all of the formal procedures that some hostels have. Our philosophy is 'kick back and relax at Dougies'.
We have all of the facilities that a fun loving backpacker could ever need, including a bar, refreshing swimming pool, free bbq facilities, shop (coke, ice-creams, chockies etc), a huge self-cook kitchen, laundry, internet, satellite t.v (really big one), hire bikes, fishing rods, tour desk and of course accommodation (doubles, twins, share rooms, camping, van sites and our own stylish canvas tents).
But once you see our tropical gardens and cruisy front lawn you might just want to lay back and relax under a palm tree, kick back in a hammock, by the pool or you may even like to unwind on the grass and soak up some of the Far North's warm tropical sunlight.

Great hostel, great vibe.

While the facilities were fine such as the kitchen and showers, the environment at this hostel isn’t a particularly comforting one and I wouldn’t recommend to a friend. There are lots of drifters and long-term stayers who are quite loud and never sober, giving the place an unsettling atmosphere for everyone else. Also the drifter in room was adamant the AC was going to kill us and would wait until we’d fallen asleep and then turn it off, meaning sleeping was difficult and uncomfortable.

The hostel itself is fine. beds are comfy and the kitchen is clean. We had a few weird experiences whilst here thoOur (long stay) roommate told us to not lock the door as she never kept her key on her and told us it was a very safe area. The rooms had no lockers tho? So we were confused. The place isn’t even that safe as my friend went to the toilet in the middle of the night and a drunk man followed her in and banged on her cubicle until he got bored and wandered off. Weird vibe but nice hostel
