You don’t need to commit a crime to go to prison. Just book your room in a real cell block. Although we’ve added comfort, we haven’t touched the most distinctive elements, like the stone walls and iron doors in cells that are over 150 years old.
Every morning, we serve you a free breakfast. We also organize tons of activities, including the prison tour. Our youth hostel is just steps from the Parliament Buildings, the Byward Market, and the Rideau Canal. You may have already heard of us. We were previously called HI Ottawa Jail.
Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel Policy and Conditions:
Cancellation policy: 24h before arrival. In case of a late cancellation or No Show, you will be charged the first night of your stay.
Check in from 15:00 to 01:00 .
Check out from 00:00 to 11:00 .
Payment upon arrival by credit cards, debit cards.
Taxes not included - 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax
Breakfast included.
General:
24 hours reception.
No curfew.

So I had a private bedroom, which was incredibly small. I had exactly one square meter of free standing space. The door was open in the top and bottom so I could hear everything outside. The corridors were very loud since it’s an old prison. You are better off with a dormitory! Showers were VERY good, and the breakfast too. It was a fun experience living in an old prison. There is a tour through the prison every day. The hostel is located 2 minutes from downtown. The common spaces are very good.

Pleasant overall. Staff were friendly & helpful, & the free breakfast was filling. Bedding & linins provided were clean & well maintained. NOTE: This is a historical building. If you book a Double Bedroom (like me), you WILL be sleeping in a refurbished jail cell. There are bars above & below your door that do not block out external sound from the hallway or neighboring cells. This might be obvious for some , but it made my stay uncomfortable because of the constant noise.

I did not see any ghosts xD
Overall I liked it very much. Breakfast is mostly simple carbs though. White bagels, cornflakes, jam... I was happy with the fruit though. It would be nice to have some whole-wheat bread or oatmeal.
